Snow Clearance for Businesses
Salt alone can’t clear more than about an inch of snow — once a fall goes beyond roughly 2.5cm, it needs physically clearing before gritting can be effective. Gloucestershire Gritting provides snow clearance for business car parks, yards, walkways and access routes across Gloucestershire, Swindon and Worcester, arranged on request and charged on an hourly basis.
When you’d need it
If snow has settled to more than about 2.5cm, gritting on its own won’t restore safe access — the snow needs clearing first. We can arrange this alongside your existing gritting service or as a one-off during a specific snow event.
How it works
Snow clearance is arranged on request rather than as standard, since UK snowfall heavy enough to need it is relatively infrequent — this keeps your costs proportionate to actual need rather than paying for cover you rarely use. Once instructed, we clear vehicle routes, car parks and pedestrian areas so your site can reopen safely.
How we prioritise and carry out the work
We complete snow clearance within two hours, working through sites in order of priority — critical, high-priority sites such as hospitals first, then the rest of a round — and revisiting if snowfall continues. Before clearing, our teams familiarise themselves with each site and note hazards such as kerbs, speed bumps and raised surfaces, so the work can be done quickly without causing damage. Where no one is on site, we clear the main access roads, car parking areas (working from the entrance backwards), roadways and delivery yards as standard. Every visit is timed and photographed on arrival and departure, so you have a clear record of when your site was cleared.
Combine it with gritting
Most of our snow clearance clients already have a gritting arrangement with us, so we already know their site, access points and priority areas — which means a faster response when snow falls.
